Trager bodywork uses gentle rocking and stretching movements to lull the body and mind into deep relaxation. The body is rocked within the range of what feels comfortable and safe for the client. The gentle, wave-like movements flow though the body. As the muscles relax, the body moves more freely. Some kinds of massage or bodywork can be uncomfortable or painful. Discomfort causes the muscles to have a reflex reaction of tightening to protect the body. In Trager work, this reflex reaction is avoided. My clients feel that Trager work is more effective for them for this reason. In addition, clients learn Trager self-care movements that they can use whenever they want their muscles to relax again.

Pain & stress cause muscles to contract. When pain or stress persists, the mind puts these muscle contractions on "automatic pilot". If you break an arm, you quickly learn how to hold part of your body immobile to prevent further pain. Soon you no longer have to think about this--your unconscious mind puts the needed muscle holding patterns on "automatic pilot". When the injured area recovers, the unconscious must relearn to let go of these patterns or restrictions in movement will persist.

Many people have chronic neck & shoulder pain, or lower back pain, due to tense, contracted muscles. These unconscious holding patterns can be changed during Trager bodywork. Clients then experience the feeling of freer, more effortless movement in their bodies. Greater self-awareness of movement & posture enables clients to learn how to take care of their bodies. More natural, easy & fluid movements can be gradually restored to our bodies! You give your car regular maintenance; why not also invest in the well-being of your body? Nurture yourself with a Trager session!
